Suggested route flow
- Coming from Cochin Airport or Aluva? We arrange handover first, then you collect the bike at Decathlon Kalamassery — the ride start for this island loop (airport → Decathlon → Kadamakkudy).
- Collect your cycle from Decathlon Kalamassery, settle into your pace, and let the city traffic fall behind.
- Ride 11 km on Container Road to Pizhala Bridge. This is where the ride changes character: honking gives way to wind, concrete opens into mangroves, and you start catching long backwater views with Chinese fishing nets in the distance.
- At the top of Pizhala Bridge, pause for a minute. You are looking straight into the Kadamakkudy islands. If you ride in the evening, this frame turns gold, green, and orange with the sunset.
- Drop into Pizhala village and head toward the Charianthuruth ferry point. This stretch gives a first-hand feel of village Kerala — narrow roads, old houses close to the lane, fishermen at work, and everyday life happening around your ride.
- Stop at St. Francis Xavier's Roman Catholic Church, Pizhala (സെന്റ്. ഫ്രാൻസീസ് സേവ്യർ റോമൻ കാത്തോലിക് ദേവാലയം, പിഴല), take a short pause, sip a roadside tea, and continue to the ferry.
- Board the Pizhala ferry with your cycle to Charianthuruth. The crossing is brief but memorable — calm water, open sky, and the quiet feeling of leaving the mainland behind.
- Ride into Kadamakkudy through chemmeen kettu (prawn farming) pockets and pokkali fields, with water glinting on both sides. This stretch has multiple viewpoints, and riding it on a cycle gives you the best feel of the landscape, especially during sunset. Take your time here; this is the heart of the route. For local flavor, stop at a kallu shappu (toddy shop) and the small roadside points near the interior roads.
- Optional add-on — kayaking: check with our team while booking, and we will guide you to the best-view kayaking spots you can explore in Kadamakkudy.
- Return A (recommended): exit through Varapuzha market and ride the scenic alternate line back to Decathlon Kalamassery (about 12 km).
- Return B: take the ferry back to Pizhala and ride the same 11 km Container Road home — familiar road, different light, different wind, different feel.
